Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray has been sentenced to four years in jail for the singer's involuntary manslaughter.
As the sentence was passed by Judge Michael E Pastor at Los Angeles Superior Court, Dr Murray showed little emotion. He will not be granted probation.
During his final statement, Judge Pastor said: "Michael Jackson died because of the actions and the failures of Dr Conrad Murray.
"Dr Murray engaged in a recurring continuous pattern of deceit, of lies and regrettably that pattern was to assist Dr Murray."
During the trial, the jury heard a recording of a barely coherent Michael Jackson. The star could be heard slurring his words and talking about his 50-date This Is It concerts planned for London's O2 Arena.
The audio clip was recorded on Murray's iPhone six weeks before the King of Pop's death in 2009.
Judge Pastor made clear how he felt about it: "One can't help but be offended by the circumstances in this case. Of everything I have heard and saw, one aspect of the evidence stands out and that is the surreptitious recording of Michael Jackson by his trusted doctor.
"That tape recording was Dr Murray's insurance policy."
Jackson was found lifeless at his Los Angeles mansion on June 25, 2009, aged 50. He was later ruled to have died from an overdose of sedatives and propofol, which is normally used in surgery.
Murray admitted giving Jackson a dose of propofol to help him sleep but his lawyers argued at trial that the singer caused his own death by taking an extra, fatal dose of the drug, without Murray's knowledge.
Prosecutors say Murray was guilty of gross negligence for administering the powerful drug, failing to monitor Jackson, delaying calling emergency services and omitting to tell medical personnel he gave the singer propofol.
