Here is a review of her album:
Maysa started earning global devotees as the voice of the group Incognito in '92. Incognito was certainly strong in its own right, but when Maysa joined, she propelled both parties into popularity. After Maysa went solo in '95, she maintained a strong underground following, so much so that when she re-unites with Incognito it becomes an event for fans.
Here Maysa follows female vocalists - Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight and Miki Howard among them - in singing favorites. Maysa's husky, buttery voice is in a category by itself - it has a soothing quality that makes her music perfect for relaxing drives or cocktail parties. Her voice is sublime - it's just the songs here that occasionally give pause. After superbly arranged jazz takes on Michael Jackson's "Can't Help It," Norman Connors' "You Are My Starship" and a slower take on Earth Wind & Fire's "Happy Feeling," Maysa dips into smooth schmaltz with "I Don't Want to Lose Your Love," which relies on cheap-sounding synthesizers. Yet such dips are easy to pardon overall - few things in life can comfort like a lovely voice singing songs you already know the words to.
