Jackson

Dear Friends...I would like to consider myself a man of honor and I attempt to do the right thing. In my dealings with people, I try to be as honest and forthright as possible. I have been reluctant to respond to your many encouraging emails over the past many months, but as you have no doubt heard, I have not responded because of the very trying circumstances in which I have found myself. The purpose of this letter is to explain what has transpired and also to apologize for any perceived indiscretions on my part.My involvement with Michael Jackson started about two years ago while working with Ronald Konitzer on other ventures. Ronald ended up, with Dieter Weizner, trying to create opportunities for Michael Jackson and literally running his affairs. Specifically, I was retained in August to do two things: create and execute a philanthropic initiative for MJ (I crafted the Go For Your Dreams concept) and to be the “point man” for the creation of an official Michael Jackson Web Site. I researched various web site design firms and made the decision to go with a firm here in Vancouver. From August to the time of the latest charges, we worked to create an exciting new web site. The contract under which we were operating was “staged” - in other words, the contract was incremental – as we reached certain milestones in the development of the site, new contracts would be entered into to complete the next portion of the work.Shortly after the charges were laid, I received instructions from Ronald Konitzer to have the web site company create a special web site “by days end” that would address, from a legal perspective, all the rumors that were floating around. That was on a Friday. Our team worked hard over the weekend, had the site ready by the time the site was announced on Monday (Good Morning America) and watched as the site received over 10,000 hits per minute during the first weeks it was up. We did a great job – all in good faith – as clearly, this was not within the contract under which we were working – but our belief was that Ronald was in charge and this appeared to be confirmed by MJ’s accountant. Shortly after the launch of the first site, it was decided that a second site should go up to allow fans to show their support for Michael and you people we great in providing us with a great deal of information. To some of you, my apologizes for the oversight of not including your web sites on our link page – but these addresses were given to us by Stuart and non inclusion was his oversight! During the construction of the second site, I was instructed by Konitzer to work with Carol Davis who works with Mark Garagoes. On numerous occasions, Carol deferred to “Leonard” - who would be making certain decisions with respect to the site. With Stuart’s resignation, I was informed that the “Leonard” making the decisions was in fact Leonard Mohammed, Executive Director of the Nation of Islam. My concern was that Leonard and the NOI were in fact pushing Konitzer out of control and I became worried for the expenses that had been incurred and an “interim invoice” was sent to MJ’s accountant. Within weeks of the second site going live, we were concerned that it needed refreshing with new information that kept on pouring in. I advised Carol Davis and Mark Garagoes of this on numerous occasions, but they refused to address my concerns. Further, the web site company was reluctant to make any changes because as time marched on, their bill was unpaid for the services they had provided. The long and the short of it...after much discussion and negotiation and a very frustrating time dealing with the delaying tactics of the “new management”, we were informed that for all the work that had been done to create these two very effective sites, THEY WOULD NOT PAY THE BILL! To me, this is morally reprehensible. Konitzer authorized the work in his “managerial” capacity – the accountant confirmed that capacity by paying for the initial bills that were presented on the original project, but the “new management” determined that all the work was “unauthorized” and therefore would not be paid for. And this from MJ’s accountant who also confirmed that this decision came from Leonard Mohammed.I tell you this not only as a form of apology for not getting back to you sooner, but also as warning to you that this type of behavior is what you might expect in the future unfortunately and knowing the personal commitment you all have towards Michael Jackson, I hope you are not as discouraged in the future as I am with what has transpired in the past.Further...on a personal level of concern for Michael Jackson. It is my perception, having been indirectly involved with him for over two years, that he has a very nasty habit...His last best friend is the one who promises the most and as soon as someone comes along with a bigger promise, he has a new best friend. This is not a good way to develop long standing relationships. This is clearly the definition of an “opportunist” and I hope he doesn’t take this attitude with his fans – because they are the longest standing relationship he has and if he continues on with this pattern, that relationship will be in jeopardy as well. (Candidly, I really don’t believe he “loves” his fans to anywhere near the extent he professes in public announcements – he clearly realizes that his fans are his future meal ticket –period. But that is just a personal observation.)I wish you all the best with your future endeavors. I really do wish that things didn’t turn out as they did because there were some really exciting opportunities on the horizon – all of which have disappeared due to the criminal charges. Truly unfortunate. And once again, my apologizes. I really didn’t mean to ignore anyone, but given the circumstances, I was really reluctant to do or say anything. I hope you understand.Take care.James |
