Michael Jackson's radio single "This Is It" is currently No. 1 on the U.K. Radio Airplay Chart. Given its performance to it is likely to top the final Airplay Chart on Sunday (Oct. 18), according to data from Nielsen Music Control.
In the 24 hours after the track went to radio at 5.00am BST on Monday it received 800 plays across Europe.
The U.K. Airplay Chart week runs from midnight at the beginning of Sunday to the end of Saturday, and even though "This Is It" hit radio on Monday morning it has still raced ahead of Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole's debut solo single "Fight For This Love", based on data covering number of plays and stations' audience from Nielsen Music Control.
Early support from national top 40 station BBC Radio 1, which played the song five times, has helped its cause, and it has also garnered several plays on U.K. commercial networks including Kiss 100 FM and Heart FM.
It also had two plays in the first 24 hours on AC network BBC Radio 2, the most popular station in the U.K. with an audience reach of 13.4 million, according to official audience research body RAJAR.
The total of 800 plays across Europe in the first 24 hours includes strong support in Germany from stations such as Oldie 95 (16 plays) in Hamburg, Radio Hamburg (11 plays) and Energy Berlin (seven plays). It has also been aired in countries including Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Romania and Sweden.
