BOSTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A fake Michael Jackson crashed a posh black-tie charity event in Boston over the weekend, winning VIP treatment for himself and about a dozen buddies.
While officials of the Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center event, which featured an appearance by real Motown legend Gladys Knight, escorted "Jackson" and his entourage of 10-15 people to a private balcony, the Boston Herald said a close look at the man should have been enough to see he was a fake.
The newspaper said the man wore golf gloves, a cheap leather jacket and a hardware store dust mask and sunglasses. In a high-pitched voice, he told a Herald reporter, "I'm not speaking."
Jenny Hoefel, an executive with the event organizer, told the Herald "Michael Jackson" did make a donation to the charity, but events organizers haven't checked yet to see if the credit card number is valid.
The real Michael Jackson moved to Bahrain after his acquittal in California on child molestation charges and has said he will not return to the United States.
