Following in the footsteps of Abba, Queen and Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson is becoming the latest pop star to get his own musical. A new show, featuring many of the troubled singer's greatest hits, premieres at the West End's Dominion Theatre this summer. Key Theatre, the producers of Thriller: The Musical, say the show will initially play for two performances, though there are plans to take it on tour next year.
Set in a utopian world called Neverland and populated by characters from Jackson's songs - among them Dirty Diana and Billie Jean - the musical is based on a story by Adrian Grant, founder of the British Michael Jackson fan club. "There is just one man good enough to heal the world, and that man is Michael Jackson," the synopsis reads. "We have all read the tales of a man who once entertained millions around the globe, moonwalked on water and created the beautiful paradise of Neverland, while taking time out to help those less fortunate than himself ... but only if you strongly believe in the force will you find him."
More than 100 performers will take part, including a chorus line and a children's ballet. Casting will be revealed in May. |
