这首歌是《Invincible》的备选歌曲，最终发行的《Invincible》专辑没有收录，录制于2000年左右吧，收录在少数地区才发行的《Cry》单曲中（Cry,Invincible中的歌曲）。此歌曲由Michael Jackson, T.Riley, Claude Forbes, Samuel Hoskins, Carmen Lampson, R.Hamilton共同创作。
"Shout》在最早决定的《Invincible》曲目里，但出于MJ自己的意愿，所以把它换成了《You Are My Life》，估计 MJ选用《You Are My Life》是为了向该歌曲原作者Carole Bayer Sager致敬。Carole Bayer Sager是多次奥斯卡音乐奖得主的音乐人，也是MJ的好朋友，正是在她的安排联系下，MJ和制作人Rodney Jerkins才有机会合作出新专辑，所以MJ特别在专辑副本的开头致言感谢Carole Bayer Sager，并说如果没有她，“也就不可能会有这张新专辑”。 《Shout》虽然没有放在专辑中正式发行，但它被放进了欧洲地区发行的《Cry》单曲唱片里一并发行"
