Jim Thomas, a former Santa Barbara County sheriff, said the pictures for years have been kept locked down under security worthy of nuclear launch codes. He told The New York Post the photos are kept in a safe-deposit box at a Santa Barbara County bank, and cannot be removed without the signatures of a deputy DA and two high-ranking sheriff's officers. Thomas said he believes the pictures are still stored away under that arrangement. Thomas, who led the 1994 probe during which Jackson submitted to having the pictures taken, agreed they should not be introduced at trial. He said that if they were, Jacko's defense team might have been able to explain away the boy's intimate knowledge of the appendage. "It certainly would have been graphic," he said. "But there are so many ways it could have been argued that he [the boy] could have known about [what the penis looked like] in other ways."
